COURSE DESCRIPTION

In this course we will cover the last 8 chapters of Athenaze I, and the corresponding portions of Greek:  An Intensive Course, Ancient Greek for Everyone, and Shelmerdine’s Introduction to Greek. The approach stresses grammar with each chapter to be translated in class. Students are expected to learn the vocabulary and the paradigms necessary for reading proficiency progression.  While four classes at once may seem to be overkill, laying a solid foundation in your first year of study of Attic Greek will make the acquisition of the language much easier.

Exams:  While there are no traditional exams for this class, the student is expected to complete all of the exercises in the book and at the above mentioned sites along with the memorization exercises at Memrise.
Homework: Homework consists of completing all exercises at the end of the chapter in Athenaze I, Greek: AIC, AGE, & Shelmerdine’s Introduction, completing the Memrise challenges for the chapter, and watching the videos for the chapter.  Why so much?  Proper pronunciation & grammatical knowledge are important to prevent missteps such as this:

We don’t need students accidentally summoning Yog-Sothoth due to laziness.
